![]() ![]() ![]() Now, at the end of the day a group of people you telling you 'no you can't learn iaido' isn't going to change your mind. For nearly 450 years, since the founding of iaido by Hayashizaki Jinsuke Minamoto no Shigenobu-shodai in present-day Murayama City, Tateoka, Yamagata Prefecture, this technique has been passed from one generation to the next in an unbroken succession of teachers and students. ![]() It is one of the oldest traditional sword arts in Japan. So.even if you plan to continue training please blunt your sword. Iaido is the art of drawing and cutting with the Japanese sword. And even then they train with exteme caution and Iai abounds with horror stories of senior students who have injured themselves very badly. Keep in mind many well trained iaido ka will not use a live blade for over a decade of training and only start using a shinken (live blade) from about 3rd-4th dan. Or cut a vein or artery and risk seropus injury and permenant disfigurement. Even the slightest lapse of concentration and you could slice through a much needed tendon in the hand - you'll then be left permenantly disabled. However as the others have noted here training with a live blade is incredibly dangerous. Japanese swords are pretty damn cool if we didn't all think that in someway I don't think half of us would be here in this forum otherwise. Hi GodofWar1234, I can certainly understand your desire to train in Iaido. ![]()
